GIM is a reconstructive and transpersonal therapeutic process. Through the use of music and imagery, GIM allows an individual to explore, experience and resolve personal needs, relationships and life issues. No musical training or knowledge is required. Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is a unique and exciting therapeutic process that combines the inherent structure, movement and spirit of music with an individual's own creative process of imagery. GIM is a dynamic and depth-oriented process. With the support and guidance of a trained GIM therapist, individuals learn to use their internal imagery to define, explore and fulfill themselves in a healthy, caring way. Thoughts, feelings, memories, fantasies and personal and transpersonal relationships are experienced and expressed. In this way, individuals discover more about themselves, work through difficult personal and/or life conditions and heal emotional wounds. Personal sessions and professional training and supervison are offered at the Center. Training in GIM involves a serious commitment to personal and professional growth. Applicants must come to the training with prior clinical and musical training and experience. The three- year training includes course work in GIM, psychodynamic and transpersonal theory and practice, GIM related adjunctive techniques and research. Clinical work and supervision are integral parts of the training. In addition, the student is required to engage in on-going personal work in the GIM medium. All levels of training are offered and the program is fully approved by AMI. The format of courses varies according to the needs of the actual students enrolled at each level of training. Courses have been offered weekly, one day a month, full weekends six times a year or in week-long intensives. If desired, some of the courses may be taken for credit at New York University or Montclair State University. Independent Study is also available. Acceptance into the program is individually determined and students with non-traditional or alternative training and/or backgrounds will be given serious consideration. In addtion, equivalent courses taken to fulfill program requirements will be accepted. Therapist and Training Director: Madelaine Ventre
