Experiencing the Mandala Travel the world to examine the development of this art form over centuries. Learn how different cultures have used the mandala, or sacred circle, for healing and ceremonial purposes. Discover the different kinds of symmetry underlying their construction. Create your own two dimensional and three dimensional mandalas using the mathematical principles of symmetry. Explore mandalas as indications of psychological process. Supervision will be available for licensed clinicians who have completed Mandala training. New Jersey Professional Development credits are available. Workshop Leader: Stefanie Mandelbaum and Madelaine Ventre Fibonacci and the Golden Mean Many artists and architects have used the golden mean and /or Fibonacci numbers as the mathematical basis for their work. Learn about golden rectangles, triangles and ellipses. Discover the pattern inherent in the Fibonacci sequence, the relationship between Fibonacci numbers and the golden mean, and examples of how both are found in nature. Weather permitting, explore the grounds and walk the trails of the center to sketch, photograph, and/or collect vegetation reflecting the connection between Fibonacci numbers (and other mathematical patterns) and the natural world. Create your own collages, rubbings, and sculptures derived from various golden shapes. New Jersey Professional Development credits are available. Workshop Leaders: Stefanie Mandelbaum and Richard Mandelbaum Tessellations M.C. Escher, Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley are all artists who have explored tessellations, the creation of continuous and potentially infinite repetitions of patterns. Learn about their work and the Islamic architecture which inspired them. You will discover the numerous tessellations. New Jersey Professional Development credits are available.
